Many do not know how much time and fatigue it costs to learn how to read. I`ve worked on it for 80 years and I can not say that I`ve succeeded.

On May 23, 2018, the best readers from the 5th and 7th grades participated, as every year, in the reading contest of the PASCH schools. This year, the event took place at the Deutsche Schule and was attended by the Erasto Gaertner School, the Imperatriz Leopoldina School (Entre Rios) and the Fritz Kliewer State School (Witmarsum). The focus of the reading contest was the joy and motivation for reading, as well as the development of communication between the five schools.

The 5th-grade classes started. The goal was to read a short story unknown to the participants. Despite a brief preparation, the challenge was to present a text with the correct intonation fluently. Then it was the turn for the 7th-grade students to show what they knew. They also persevered. In the end, two winners were selected per class in the DaF (German as a foreign language) and DaZ (German as a second language) area.

During the contest, Ana Vitória presented herself as one of the five best readers in the DaF area. We congratulate Ana Vitória for her excellent performance.

The summary of this exciting afternoon was: children still love reading. We must continue to promote this will, for reading is considered to be the key qualification. Even, and precisely, in times of the digital age, it is indispensable.

For this, the competition held every year by PASCH schools offers a valuable contribution.
