The world over, a commonly recognized date does not exist in which teacher`s day is celebrated. Each country celebrates and dedicates a moment to teachers in their own way. UNESCO, in remembrance of the Teachers` Statute, established in 1966, decreed, as of October 1994, the 5th of October as World Teachers` Day.

It is important to note that in each country, within each culture, this celebration takes place in a particular way. That is, in some places, teachers` day is celebrated with a celebration, a holiday in which schools remain closed or open only for festivities and in others only an official mention by the government and continuing as a regular school day. However, in almost all countries there is always a moment to think about this professional, its importance and relevance to a particular society.

In Brazil, October 15 was defined as teachers` day. This date references the date on which D. Pedro I, Emperor of Brazil from 1822 to 1831, decreed the creation of Elementary Education. Citing part of the law itself, it said that all cities, towns and villages would have their primary (elementary) schools.

However, the official commemoration of teachers` day in Brazil only happened, in fact, from a federal decree of 1963, which defines the reasons for the festive day in the following way: In order to celebrate Teacher`s Day properly, educational establishments will promote solemnities, highlighting the role of the teacher in modern society, involving pupils and families.

In the calendar of the Swiss-Brazilian School, teachers` day is remembered with a holiday. However, more important than setting that date as a holiday, teachers are always remembered as protagonists that contribute to the formation of our students. In this way, we seek to invest our energy, time and dedication to the continuous development of these professionals who contribute so much to the construction of an ever more achievable and enriched society.
