A `Parent & School Organization` is made up of parents and employees of a school. The objectives can be diverse. All parent & school organizations have in common the promotion of voluntary cooperation of parents in school life and the strengthening of the unity of the whole school community.

Generally, the support offered to the organization by school administration is through the provision of communication channels, space resources and necessary pedagogical know-how.

Typically, a parent & school organization is composed of a steering committee with a chairman, his deputy and a secretary. Other specific functions arise according to the purpose and size of the organization. In general, the basis of its structure, objectives, and activities is a regiment drawn up by school administration and by parents, and typically all parents automatically become members. In the guilds of a parent & school organization, teachers and members of the administration are always represented.

Prevention of diseases, drug addiction, activities to promote environmental protection and sustainability are part of the typical parent & school organization activities. There are also complementary courses for parents, teachers and students, for example, regarding the use of media. Also, parent & school organizations can lead the planning and organization of excursions, or even attend them.

Fundraising for school pedagogical projects, purchases of specific materials and equipment (mainly computers and software) or school infrastructure upgrades are among the most common activities of parent & school organizations. The co-organization of school parties or the holding of their own events are also common activities, with the aim of intensifying the social life between the parents, as well as that of integrating new parents. For this, the organization of exhibitions and fairs, graduation events, school dances, talent shows and the like are especially appropriate.

Essential for all parent & school organizations is always to maintain a neutral position concerning school administration decisions and not to intervene in the teachers` daily pedagogical activities.

In the Swiss-Brazilian School, the collaborative work between parents and school has long been present and has always existed in the organization of events and the active participation of children`s school life. This year this cooperation was formalized, and the Eltern und Schule (Parents and School) of our school emerged. The primary objective is a closer relationship and integration of the school community. Unity is strength!
